Choose the question before the channel
A founder's first channel decision is often framed as search versus social. A better starting point is the uncertainty you need to resolve. Are people already looking for the service? Can you explain the experience without an exaggerated health claim? Can your intake and support teams handle the expected questions? Write one hypothesis for each proposed channel, along with the evidence that would change your decision.
For example, a search test might ask whether qualified visitors complete intake after seeing the full price and process. An educational content test might ask whether an explanation of the consultation journey generates suitable inquiries. Those are different experiments. They should have different creative, review steps and success measures.
Treat policy readiness as a launch gate
Google restricts prescription drug services and has country-specific rules for telemedicine advertisers. Its United States section describes LegitScript accreditation and Google certification requirements. Its personalized advertising policy also restricts advertiser-curated audiences for sensitive interest categories, including health. Check the exact service, country, creative, destination and targeting configuration rather than assuming a general healthcare label makes every campaign eligible.
Record the policy link, who checked it, the date, required applications and any unresolved interpretation. An unanswered eligibility question means the channel is not ready for a paid test. Platform acceptance does not settle every legal or clinical question. Use the advertising review checklist to organize the separate reviews.

Compare the work each channel creates
Search can expose demand for a specific service, but the landing page still needs to explain access, price and next steps clearly. Social requires a repeatable supply of reviewed creative and a process for responding to public questions. Educational content requires subject expertise, maintenance and a distribution plan. Referral partnerships require a defined relationship, disclosure review and a way to attribute suitable inquiries without casually sharing patient information.
Score your team's ability to operate each channel this month. A channel with a promising audience and no creative owner is an unfinished plan. Include review time, support workload and the founder's availability. Do not count an existing personal following as an automatic source of patients; test whether its interests match the offered service.
Use fulfilled-order economics to set the test
Set a spending ceiling, a test window and a decision meeting before buying traffic. Separate media spending from setup work, creative production, platform fees, clinical services, fulfillment and support. Telehealth Launch Team's publicly stated minimum month-one ad budget is $30,000. That is a media budget requirement, not a quoted setup fee. Confirm the applicable offer and all other economics in the proposal and agreement.
Use the unit economics worksheet to calculate how much contribution remains after variable costs. Then work backward to the acquisition cost you can support. A campaign that produces many inexpensive inquiries can still lose money when few become fulfilled orders or when refunds and support consume the remaining margin.

Decide whether to continue, repair or stop
Review a channel as a chain of operating steps. Weak click response may require a different message. Many started intakes with few completions may point to unclear pricing, confusing questions or a technical issue. Orders that do not reach fulfillment require an operations investigation before adding spending. Assign the next action to the owner of the failing step.
Do not change audience, message, landing page and service terms simultaneously if the goal is to learn which change helped. Record the version of each asset and the date it entered the test. Keep a short decision log with the observed result, unresolved uncertainty and next experiment. This builds a channel plan your next operator can understand.
First-channel decision matrix
Complete this before approving a test. Readiness is a gate; a high overall score cannot compensate for an unresolved policy or service problem.
On small screens, scroll the table sideways to view every column.
| Channel | Question to answer | Launch evidence | Decision rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search | Does existing demand reach completed intake? | Reviewed destination, eligibility and event plan | Compare fulfilled-order cost with your approved ceiling |
| Social | Can reviewed education create suitable inquiries? | Creative owner, comment routing and targeting review | Continue only if downstream quality supports spending |
| Content | Which founder-approved explanations attract interest? | Useful articles, distribution owner and maintenance date | Evaluate suitable inquiries and assisted conversions |
| Partnerships | Does this audience fit the service? | Documented relationship and data-sharing review | Check quality, workload and contribution by partner |
Before you move forward
- Give every test one hypothesis, owner and spending ceiling.
- Resolve the exact advertising and targeting requirements.
- Budget creative, review and support alongside media.
- Measure fulfilled orders and contribution, not leads alone.
- Schedule a decision meeting and keep the decision log.
